This deal and Harden's deal are starting to make me uneasy with the deal we gave Wolf. Essentially, we could have had Harden/Dutch OR Wolf, and although there would have been a risk in acquiring two injury prone players, the ceiling would have been huge as well.

Thoughts?

Fuentes had his struggles last year, sure, but I'm not sure the answer is giving a guy who struggled in non-save situations last year the role of set-up man and occasional closer.

Braves sign Glaus to play 1B

Per Ken Rosenthal;

The Braves have reached agreement on a one-year contract with free agent Troy Glaus to play first base, according to a major-league source.

The deal, which also includes incentives, is pending a physical, the source said.

Glaus, 33, has made only six career appearances at first, two last season with the Cardinals.

Sounds like this is about a done deal.

Jon Heyman reporting Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan to the Yankees in exchange for Melky Cabrera and Mike Dunn. Possibly another prospect involved.

I know some on here will be disappointed, since Vazquez was a name banded about on here a lot as a possible Brewers target.

Parra is exactly the type of pitcher you should be targeting for 2009. He is a good bet for improvement for two reasons: he suffered from bad luck in 2008 - a high HR/FB and a very-high BABIP - so he figures to improve upon his ERA simply due to regression to the mean; and he is also a good bet to improve in his actual skill, due to his track record and age.

A combination of improvement and regression should lead to Manny Parra being a steal in 2009.

In another example of Melvin's preference for guys he drafted, TH is reporting the Brewers signed former Ranger Kameron Loe to a minor league deal. At worst, Loe, who's listed at 6'8" 225 takes the place of McClung in the post on the Brewer staff basketball team.

According to TH, Loe pitched in Japan last year. No word on his results.

Looks like another excellent trade from Jack Z. From what I've read, the Cubs will be taking on all of Silva's $24MM, and the Mariners all of Bradley's $21MM. MLB Trade Rumors has it up, via Tim Brown of Yahoo. They're dealing two minor league pitchers in exchange. Dodgers are paying up to half of Pierre's salary.

So Pierre comes back to Chicago in an unexpected way.
